CDS stands for Combined Defence Services Examination and is one of the most popular examination among young people who want to join the Indian Army as an officer cadre.. The exam is conducted twice a year by the UPSC for admissions into Indian Military Academy (IMA), Officers Training Academy (OTA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and Air Force Academy (AFA).

CDS Exam Pattern
It is very important for the applicants to go through the complete exam pattern. This single habit can increase their succcess rate easily. Exam Format: Objective
Name of subjects: English, General knowledge and Elementary Mathematics.
Number of Sections: Three
Exam duration: 2 hours for each subject
One more thing we would like to mention here is that Elementary Mathematics is not required for all the Candidates appearing to get admission into Officers Training Academy (OTA). Negative marking is also there for wrong answers.
CDS Eligibility Criteria
Only unmarried graduates are eligible to sit for the CDS exam. Women candidates are eligible for OTA only. To get admission
to INA, degree in engineering is required. For OTA and IMA, a degree from any recognized university is required. And for AFA, a valid degree plus Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 level is required.
Age-Limits:
19-24 Years for IMA
19-22 Years for INA
19-23 Years for AFA
19-25 Years for OTA

Selection Process
Candidates have to go through multiple stages to get selected for various posts under IMA, INA, AFA and OTA. Candidates who
qualify in written exam are called for an interview by Services Selection Board(SSB). The interview process lasts for a week
where candidates have to undergo several tests including physical, psychological and medical.
